Abstract:

The Grimm's Fairy Tales, originating from Germany in the 19th Century, are well-known stories throughout the world. Today, the stories have become archetypes and are frequently remastered and recreated through different mediums. However, the versions of the Grimm's Fairy tales viewed today have evolved from their origin. Looking back at the original Fairy Tales it is evident that gender roles impacted the characters and the values of the stories. Furthermore, the female roles demonstrate the perception of beauty and femininity, and in the process, the Fairy Tales reject non conventional beauty and dehumanize women who do not fit the "ideal" beauty standard.
